remember the pepperoni cooker? well happy birthday cuz its been a year! it was designed to go into a PC case, but my case can’t fit it, and so i couldn’t practically use it.
well guess what, i’m getting an older PC for free from a family member. (if you wanna know the specs its a ryzen threadripper 1950X, RTX 3070, 32GB DDR4 RAM). it was built in around 2017 and i upgraded the graphics card (had a GTX 950 before), but guess what, it also has two 5.25″ slots in the front. which means the pepperoni cooker finally gets a vessel!
but idk how much current that apparatus even uses, just that it takes 5 volts and then gets hot.
i ran some tests over 30 minutes that measure current draw and temperature
expand this to see the full results table
| time | power draw (amps) | element temp (ºF) | case temp (ºF) | back temp (ºF) |
| start (0 min) | 1.9 | 72.8º | 71.3º front top 70.5º bottom rear | 70.5º |
| 2 min | 2.37 | 105.4º | 71.1º front 70.7º rear | 72.2º |
| 4 min | 2.71 | 125.4º | 78.6º front 70.7º rear | 70.9º |
| 6 min | 3.17 | 144.8º | 83.4º front 75º rear | 74.4º |
| 10 min | 3.51 | 177.6º | 91.2º front 78º rear | 76.4º |
| 15 min | 4.16 | 208.1º | 102.3º front 83.2º rear | 75.4º |
| 20 min | 4.05 | 206.1º | 102.2º front 86.1º rear | 77.5º |
| 25 min | 4.06 | 207.3º | 109º front 94.7º rear | 82.6º |
| 30 min | 4.05 | 208.2º | 110º front 96.6º rear | 82.8º |
| maximum | 4.16 | 208.2º | 110º front 94.7º rear | 82.8º |
basically it drew 4.16 amps and reached 208ºF inside and made it to 110º outside
now the outside will keep getting hotter as it runs but it would be multiple hours before it becomes a problem and you’d run out of pepperonis first.
i also have a few ideas on how to make it better for inside a PC, like making the heater have a connector so the cooker can be easily removed to clean the grease trap or the tray.
both of those can be washed in the sink like dishes.
also it is NOT gonna “make the heating element controlled in software by a pi pico or something”- it’s a pepperoni cooker, not a general purpose oven.
anywhosies the new pepperoni cooker is gonna have it’s own project page when it’s done so look forward to that ig.
